Simply putting things into perspective

With the recent hype of the 8TV public message on Ramadhan, brought much debate regarding the contents of the messages that were broadcasted briefly on air before taken off. Slowly but surely, even after being removed, there is still YouTube right? It didn't take a while for it to spread.

There were three messages, first one being a young lady being overly friendly (or as I like to call it obnoxious) at the bazaar. Then, the corrected version of her which was polite and demure. Second message was the same lady being greedy and inconsiderate to others, offering food to people who were fasting, and of course the corrected one was her being considerate. Lastly, again the same lady wearing a tank top while censoring her shoulders and her saying out loud "I'm the centre of the attention. I love it!" and later, corrected with her wearing baju kurung as her clothes were considered revealing.

Now, let's break it down. In the first message, there is nothing wrong with being friendly (but not up to the point that she became obnoxious), but in the spirit of Malaysians who are generally and naturally quite friendly, I don't see a problem of praising the food. Put this into perspective. If there were 3 girls of different race doing the same thing, now you see less of what people caught on right, the race of the girl which happened to be Chinese. I would still find the first message distasteful because the three girls would have acted in an obnoxious manner, which does not describe how people are usually at the bazaar, merely overexaggerating.

Second message, I totally agree on what the content was, being considerate. Not just during Ramadhan while the Muslims are fasting, but also on every other occasion as well. But then again, public message portrayed in a tasteless manner. Yes, we do sometime make a mistake by offering our Muslim friends food or drinks while they are fasting, it's an honest mistake. But the lady acted in an oblivious manner, which does not depict reality. But true enough, do not be greedy if you're at the bazaar. Save some for others.

Lastly, final message. Over the top! I get the picture, do not wear inappropriate attire, but does that mean that to go to a bazaar, we need to own/loan baju kurung just to be there? A t-shirt and casual jeans are just fine. Plus, who on earth yells out "I'm in the centre of attention! I love it!".

This is plain ridiculous. But I would like to make it very clear, THIS IS NOT RACIAL RELATED WHATSOEVER, merely a public message gone wrong. Furthermore, 8TV and Fly FM are known for their exaggeration in TV and radio ads and I feel that they can never do an ad just like those tear-jerking Ramadhan ads that I always look forward to. Those are the authentic ones that display and promote the spirit of Ramadhan. To that Chinese lady, you may be laughing doing the shoot, but you're not laughing now, are you?
